Dune buggy anyone?
I think this street was named by someone who just had to idly enter some random characters.
Sandy desert has sand.
California Interstate rest stop has deserty trees.
Shaded picnic area.
Camry copes with desert conditions admirably.
I had experienced similar inspections in Australia where the government officials and sniffer dogs in attendence make you feel a little uncomfortable. In California, you wind down the window, stop and a not unattractive young lady asks 'Do you have any fruit?'. A brief 'No, ma'am.' satisfies her curiousity and with a smile you are on your way again.
Almost, but not quite 'Yer Maw'.
I'm scared of Ghosts so I didn't go.
Real live cactii.
I turned off the Interstate in search of a more entertaining way to arrive in LA.
I pulled into a Gas Station and had some lunch.
Spotted this humourously named removals company truck.
And then set off in search of California Highway 2.
I read a little bit about it on the t'internet in Las Vegas. I was not disappointed.
Some parts of it are quite high. This is the highest I have been on the whole trip. I am only 40 or 50 miles from the coast!
Downtown LA from a layby on Highway 2.
Made it!
Dinner cooked by my sister and brother in law in Glendale, CA. It was delicious. It's wonderful to arrive at the home of a your dear family and not be suffering from Jetlag, dehydration and the general grumpyness that goes with them. I guess I went about the avoidance of those things in a fairly extreme manner, however I think it might actually have been worth it.
